Darkness into Light 2017
Students and staff from Dunboyne College of Further Education joined Pieta House in their annual worldwide event, ‘Darkness into Light,’ on 06th May 2017.
The group set off from Dunboyne College at 3:15am and arrived in plenty of time to join the crowds of people gathering towards the start point, in the grounds of Maynooth University. Hundreds of people headed out into the darkness at exactly 4:15am to walk, or run, the beautiful course lit up with tea lights and signs of hope.
All participants arrived back to Maynooth University, as the sun was rising, and were welcomed by the fabulous signing of a live gospel choir.
There was a small bit of competitiveness from staff Emily, Nicola and Eilish who were delighted to arrive back first from the Dunboyne group.....only to be met by Mick and Sandra who had just pipped them to the post!
All competitiveness aside, it was a very poignant event which aims to, “Create a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance,” (Darkness Into Light 2017, 2017). We were delighted to have been part of such an admirable cause.
